Update: Court releases Atiku Abubakar's son after he was remanded for contempt of court order, grants custody of his children to ex-wife
The Magistrate Court Sitting at the Tinubu area of Lagos Island has released Aminu Abubakar, son of former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar after he was locked up in the transit cell for disobeying a court order.
Magistrate Kikelomo Ayeye ordered the remand this after he failed to produce his son, Amir Atiku, 7, in court, whom he took away from his estranged wife, Miss Ummi Bukar Bolori
Hours after he was remanded in custody, the court ordered his release after the boy was produced in court.
His ex-wife was granted custody of the boy for 10 days, after which the court will decide the permanent residence of the boy and his eight-year-old sister who is also with Ms. Bolori.
The matter has been adjourned until November 1 for the determination of the full custody of the two children.
The estranged couple who got married in Borno State in 2007, enjoyed a five-year marriage before their union was dissolved by a Sharia Court in Maiduguri in 2011.
Following their separation and battle over their children, on 11th of October 2017, Miss Bolori secured a court injunction to take custody of their children upon reports that her kids who have been with their father, were lacking motherly care.
The court document also revealed that their 8-year-old daughter sent numerous text messages to her that she wasn't happy at her father's home and wanted to be with her.
