OAU releases new resumption date of students

Students of the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University will be resuming back to the campus in four days time following the school announcement . The authorities of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) , Ile-Ife have directed the students to resume the second semester academic programme on Sunday, 1st October, 2017. In a statement by its Public Relations Officer of OAU, Abiodun Olarewaju, the university 24th September earlier date have changed because of the parents’ call for repair of facilities in the hostels to make them conducive for students. According to the statement, students are to come into residence on Sunday, 1st October and resume academic activities on Tuesday, 3rd October, 2017. What a remarkable achievement. Salihu Dasuki has made Nigeria proud once again as he becomes the youngest senior lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University in the United Kingdom. The 29-year-old Nigerian gratefully announced his resumption to work as a senior lecturer of Information Systems yesterday, Monday, September 25 on Twitter. He made the announcement with the following words: "By Allah's grace, not only am I the youngest, I resume teaching as a senior lecturer of computing at Sheffield Hallam University, UK" Dasuki in another tweet says he was an assistant professor at the age of 24 when he was in Nigeria for five years. A Nigerian teenager who definitely had a bright future ahead of him has tragically lost his life after a brief illness. 16-year-old student,  Mubarak Razak reportedly lost his life just after passing both the JAMB exams and Post-UTME with flying colours. Razak applied to study Medicine and Surgery at the University of Ilorin in the Post-UTME screening before the unfortunate incident. The news which was shared with StellaDimokokorkus reads:- The person in subject was a close relation of mine, his name was Mubarak Razak by name and 16 years. He applied for Medicine and Surgery at University of Ilorin after being denied admission last year when he applied for Anatomy scoring 206 in UTME, immediately after graduating in a private secondary school in Ilorin, Kwara state. He then struggled to have a better UTME score this year and passed POST-JAMB excellently scoring 72% when he suddenly died after a brief illness last week Saturday night. NASU, SSANU Reach Agreement With FG, To Call Off Strike

​Full activities may soon resume in Nigerian universities across the country as the non-teaching staff currently on strike have accepted the Federal Government’s proposal aimed at addressing their grievances. It was learnt however that the striking unions have asked for ‘some time to consult before finally returning to the duty posts.’ Officials of the unions – Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities, SSANU, Non Academic Staff Union of Universities, NASU, and National Association of Academic Technologist, NAAT – told PREMIUM TIMES off the record that the strike could be suspended on Thursday or Friday. The National President of the Joint Action Committee of the unions, Samson Ugwoke, spoke after the second open negotiation meeting with representatives of the government.
